10 new COVID-19 cases in Sikkim; tally rises to 555
Sikkim on Monday reported 10 new COVID-19 cases, taking the Himalayan state's tally to 555, an official said.

Director General (DG)-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr Pempa T Bhutia said that all new cases have been admitted to various hospitals and Covid care facilities.

Of the total 555 COVID-19 cases, 380 are active cases as 174 patients have recovered and one has died, he said.

The COVID-19 tally in Maharashtra increased to 3,83,723 on Monday with addition of 7,924 new cases while the death count mounted by 227, including 39 fatalities in Mumbai region, to 13,883, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.

With 789 COVID-19 Cases, Madhya Pradesh Tally Rises To 28,589

Madhya Pradesh on Monday recorded 789 new coronavirus cases, 189 of them from Bhopal, taking the infection count in the state to 28,589, health officials said.

With nine more people succumbing to the viral infection, the death toll went up to 820, they said.

Of them, two deaths occurred in Jabalpur and Rewa while one patient died each in Bhopal, Gwalior, Barwani, Singrauli and Ashoknagar.

At 189, Bhopal reported the highest number of cases in the state, followed by 127 in Indore and 59 in Gwalior, officials said.

Gujarat Records 1,052 COVID-19 Cases; 22 Die, 1,015 Recover

Gujarat reported 1,052 new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the statewide tally to 56,874, while 22 more patients succumbed to the infection, the health department said.

With the death of 22 COVID-19 patients, fatalities rose to 2,348, it said.

The number of recovered cases rose to 41,380 after 1,015 patients were discharged from hospitals across the state, the department said.

Total Lockdown Extended To Mon District In Nagaland

Total lockdown has been extended to Nagaland's Mon district which became the third in the state to have the regulation clamped on it on Monday to contain the spread of coronavirus, an official bulletin said.

The lockdown in Mon district in interior Nagaland will continue till August 2, it said.

The lockdown protocol will be followed and all shops, business establishments, offices, schools will be closed except pharmacies and there will be total ban on movement of people barring medical emergencies, it said.

However, trucks from Assam carrying essential commodities were permitted entry into the district only for Monday so that the general people can get them during the lockdown, officials said.

The human clinical trial of indigenously developed Covaxin, a possible vaccine against the novel coronavirus, began at an institute here on Monday, a senior official said.

The much-awaited trial of BBV152 COVID-19 vaccine or Covaxin commenced at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, one of the 12 centres selected by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting phase one and two of the process, the official at the facility said.

Coronavirus: Chhattisgarh Government Extends Lockdown Till August 6

The Chhattisgarh government on Monday decided to extend the ongoing lockdown in coronavirus-hit areas, including capital Raipur, Bilaspur and Durg, till August 6 to check the deadly infection's spread, an official said.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of cabinet ministers and senior officials chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at his official residence , the public relations department official said.

Active COVID-19 Cases In Noida Drop Below 700, Recovery Rate Nears 85 Per Cent

Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded 44 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday as the number of active cases in the district plummeted below 700-mark, official data showed.

A total of 125 patients were discharged after treatment on Monday, it said.

So far, 4,792 people have tested positive for the infection in the district while the number of active cases came down to 692 from 773 on Sunday, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.

A pet cat has become the first UK animal to be infected with coronavirus, health officials said Monday, insisting there was "no evidence" it could pass on the disease.

The case was confirmed by the UK's chief veterinary officer after laboratory tests carried out earlier this month in Surrey, near London.

Officials said that "all available evidence" indicated the cat likely contracted the disease from its owners who had tested positive for COVID-19.

India's Coronavirus Fatality Rate Progressively Falling: Government

India's COVID-19 fatality rate has been progressively falling and currently stands at 2.28 per cent which is among the lowest in the world, the government said on Monday, attributing the dip to factors like aggressive testing and an effective containment strategy.

It also said that the recovery rate has been improving consistently and the total recoveries have now crossed the nine lakh-mark.

WHO Says Travel Bans Cannot Be Indefinite; Countries Must Fight Virus

Bans on international travel cannot stay in place indefinitely, and countries are going to have to do more to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus within their borders, the World Health Organization said on Monday.

A surge of infections has prompted countries to reimpose some travel restrictions in recent days, with Britain throwing the reopening of Europe's tourism industry into disarray by ordering a quarantine on travellers returning from Spain.

Only with strict adherence to health measures, from wearing masks to avoiding crowds, would the world manage to beat the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization's director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said at a virtual news briefing in Geneva.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration has decided to restrict the number of vehicles passing through Jarawa tribal reserve in South Andaman district with immediate effect to prevent the spread of coronavirus among its indigenous population, officials said on Monday.

The district administration in Nicobar has made it mandatory for people seeking to enter its islands to produce COVID-19 test certificates, in order to protect the Nicobarese tribal population from the infection, they said.

Belgium Sees 'Worrying' Rise In Coronavirus Cases

Belgium is seeing a "worrying" rapid rise in coronavirus cases, health ities warned Monday, with almost half of the new infections recorded around the port city of Antwerp.

There have been 1,952 new cases around Belgium over the past week, up more than 70 per cent on the previous week, officials announced, as the country's national security committee met to consider tougher measures to slow the spread of the virus.

"The rapid growth in the number of cases is worrying," Frederique Jacobs, professor of infectious diseases and a spokeswoman for Belgium's federal COVID-19 taskforce, told reporters.

Indonesia Virus Cases Pass 100,000 Under 'New Normal' Policy

Indonesia confirmed its 100,000th coronavirus case on Monday as the Red Cross warned that the health crisis in the world's fourth most populous country risked "spiralling out of control".

The vast archipelago -- 德扑圈apphome to more than a quarter of a billion people -- has been recording 1,000-plus new infections daily after relaxing movement restrictions this month in a bid to head off a collapse of Southeast Asia's biggest economy.

As of Monday, Indonesia had reported a total of 100,303 COVID-19 cases and 4,838 deaths. But with some of the world's lowest testing rates, the true scale of its toll is widely believed to be much greater.

Telangana Reports 1,473 New COVID-19 Cases, 8 Deaths

As many as 1,473 COVID-19 cases, eight deaths and 774 recoveries were reported from Telangana in the last 24 hours, the state government informed on Monday.

With 1,473 new cases, the total COVID-19 count in the state has reached 55,532 including 12,955 active cases. While 42,106 recoveries have been reported in the state so far, the number of deaths stands at 471. A total of 9,817 samples were tested, it added.

As many as 101 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Maharashtra Police Force, informed the police on Monday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the force rose to 8,584 including 6,538 who have recovered and 94 deaths.

Case against BJP councillor for not allowing Covid man's cremation in Kerala

A day after protests against the cremation of the body of an 83-year-old man who was confirmed positive for the coronavirus after his death in Kerala's Kottayam, the police have registered a case against a BJP councillor and locals for unlawful assembly and violating COVID-19 protocols. They reportedly feared health risk because of the cremation of a Covid-positive man.

Delhi Doctor, 27, dies of Covid; Colleagues had raised funds for treatment

A 27-year-old doctor in Delhi, who was on the frontline in the fight against the novel coronavirus, died on Saturday night after a month-long battle against the highly infectious disease.

Over 11 lakh cases or 82.71 per cent of the 14,35,453 infections reported in the country have come from 10 states. With 3,75,799 cases, Maharashtra has the maximum number of cases in the country. It is followed by Tamil Nadu (2,13,723), Delhi (1,30,606),  Andhra Pradesh ( 96,298), Karnataka ( 96,141), West Bengal (56,377), Gujarat (55,822), Telangana ( 54,059), Bihar (38,919) and Uttar Pradesh (23,921).

Over 1,500 COVID-19 beds available in Delhi: Health Ministry

Over 1,500 COVID-19 beds are available in four government hospitals in Delhi, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

"Visible results of the Union Govt''s effective intervention in managing #COVID19 situation in Delhi are apparent in number of COVID beds available in the 3 Central Govt hospitals and #AIIMS, New Delhi," the Union Health Ministry said in a tweet.

According to the Ministry, there are 404 COVID-19 beds vacant in Safdarjung hospital, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College. AIIMS has 1,283 beds available.

"In Dr RML, Safdarjung and LHMC hospitals, against a total of 529 COVID beds, 404 COVID beds are vacant today morning at 7 am," said the Ministry in a tweet.

"Against a total number of 1,515 COVID beds in AIIMS, New Delhi, 1,283 beds are vacant today at 7 am," it said.

32 fresh COVID-19 cases in Arunachal; count rises to 1,158

Thirty-two more people, including six ITBP personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the northeastern state's caseload to 1,158 on Monday, news agency PTI reported.

Eleven fresh cases were reported in Seppa, the district headquarters of East Kameng, eight in Changlang district, six in Upper Siang, five in the Capital Complex region and one each in East Siang and Lower Subansiri districts, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa was quoted as saying by PTI.

Sikkim extends lockdown till August 1

Sikkim has extended the statewide lockdown till August 1 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, according to a notification.

A complete, six-day lockdown, imposed by the hilly state, was scheduled to end on Sunday.

"After careful consideration of the situation, it has been decided to extend the period of lockdown in the entire state of Sikkim till 6 am of August 1, 2020," a notification issued by Chief Secretary S C Gupta said.

Coronavirus news: Morocco to restrict movement in 8 cities amid spike in COVID-19 cases
Moroccan ities announced a ban on entry and exit from eight cities of the kingdom due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Entrance into the cities of Casablanca, Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, Berrechid and Settat is prohibited starting Monday night, according to a press release from the Moroccan Interior Ministry and Health Ministry received by Sputnik.

Coronavirus news: US adds over 55,000 cases in 24 hours
The United States on Sunday recorded 55,187 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours, Johns Hopkins University reported in its real-time tally.

The world's hardest-hit country now has a total caseload of 4,229,624, the Baltimore-based university showed at 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Monday).

An additional 518 deaths brought the overall death count to 146,909, AFP reported.

Coronavirus news: 35 fresh COVID-19 cases in Chandigarh
A total of 35 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Chandigarh on Sunday, the health department informed.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the Union Territory stands at 887, including 302 active cases and 572 recoveries.

So far, 13 deaths have been reported from Chandigarh, ANI reported.
