COVID-19 HIghlights: A total of 28,084 COVID-19 linked deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

COVID-19: Seven deaths, 1,430 new cases in Telangana
The rise in COVID-19 cases continued in Telangana on Tuesday, with 1,430 infections and seven deaths being reported, taking the tally in the state to 47,705 and fatalities to 429.

Out of the 1,430 new cases, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for 703, followed by Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts with 117 and 105 cases respectively.

A state government bulletin said 36,385 people (76 per cent) have recovered so far, while 10,891 were under treatment.

The bulletin said 16,855 samples were tested on Tuesday. Cumulatively, 2,93,077 samples have been tested. the tests per million population was 7,327, while cumulative sample positivity rate was 16 per cent.

The bulletin said the government has made elaborate arrangements for treating COVID-19 patients and that sufficient beds are available in government hospitals.

COVID-19: Gujarat's Surat records 298 new cases
Surat reported 298 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday,taking the tally to 10,840, while 21 more patients died, the highest in Gujarat, the state health department said.

The district reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the state on Tuesday at 21, taking the toll to 467, it said.

Out of the 744 new cases reported from across Gujarat, Surat alone accounted for 298.

The district reported 21 out of the 34 deaths in the state on Tuesday, the department said in a release.

Since the last several days, Surat has overtaken Ahmedabad in both the number of daily cases and fatalities.

Surat city reported 225 and rural parts recorded 73 new infections.

COVID-19: 785 more test positive in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh recorded 785 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state-wide infection count to 24,095 on Tuesday, while 18 more patients succumbed to the disease, health department officials said.

With 18 more people succumbing to the viral infection on Tuesday, the death count went up to 756, they said.

Of them, four fatalities each were reported from Bhopal and Indore, while one each patient died in Morena, Jabalpur, Sagar, Ratlam, Dhar, Barwani, Datia, Hoshangabad, Jhabua and Guna, the officials said.

Among the new cases, the highest 149 cases were reported from Bhopal, followed by 72 in Raisen, 70 in Indore, 62 in Morena and 49 in Gwalior, they said.

Also, a total of 573 persons were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday, taking the number of recoveries to 16,257, the officials said.

The number of cases in Indore, the worst-hit district in the state, rose by 70 to 6,225, while the death count increased to 299, a state health department bulletin said.

COVID-19: 133 new cases in Chhattisgarh, count now 5,731
Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 count rose to 5,731 on Tuesday with the addition of 133 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, while the death count climbed to 29, as the sample of an elderly woman who died earlier tested positive, a health official said.

A total of 170 patients were discharged in the day taking the total number of such cases to 4,114, he said.

"While 115 new cases were reported on Tuesday, 18 people tested positive on Monday night," he said.

Of the fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 50 were from Raipur, 23 from Kondagaon, eight from Bilaspur, five each from Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Koriya and Narayanpur, four from Kanker, three each from Dantewada and Janjgir-Champa, and two each from Bijapur, Durg and Balrampur, he said.

Coronavirus: US Virus Crisis To "Get Worse Before It Gets Better", Says Donald Trump

President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that the coronavirus crisis in the United States is likely to "get worse before it gets better."

"Some areas of our country are doing very well," Trump said at his first formal White House virus briefing since the end of April.

"Others are doing less well," the president said. "It will probably unfortunately get worse before it gets better."

Trump also urged Americans to wear facemasks to help prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus.

COVID-19: Gujarat's Ahmedabad records 199 new cases
Ahmedabad reported 199 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 24,767, while more than 200 people recovered from the infection, the Gujarat health departmentsaid.

With six new fatalities, the COVID-19 death count in the district rose to 1,557, it said.

With 205 patients getting discharged from hospitals, the number of recovered people rose to 19,413, the health department said in a release.

Ahmedabad city recorded 187 new cases, while rural parts of the district reported 12 infections, it said.

Five of the fatalities were from the city and one from a rural area, the department said.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said the number of recovered cases improved to 79.9 per cent of total infections in the city.

COVID-19: France says virus spread 'increasing' with summer holidays
The French health ministry said Tuesday that coronavirus transmission is increasing during the summer holiday season, with the total number of COVID-19 deaths now standing at 30,165.

The ministry's DGS health directorate said it had registered "an increase in the number of emergency doctor calls, emergency room visits, the number of virus clusters and new hospitalisations" for suspected cases across the country.

The directorate said a total of 547 virus clusters had emerged since May 9, just before France began lifting the strict stay-at-德扑圈apphome orders and business closures imposed in March to limit the virus's spread.

But currently only 208 clusters remain active, it said, clarifying a statement from Monday by Health Minister Olivier Veran, who cited 400 to 500 active clusters even though "we are very far from a second wave" of widespread cases.

As people take advantage of the summer holidays, "travel, events and gatherings of families or friends are factors that could foster the epidemic's resurgence," the DGS said.

Over the past 24 hours, however, only 13 new deaths had been recorded in France, far below the daily count at the height of the outbreak, reported news agency AFP.

COVID-19: Kerala reports 720 new cases
Kerala on Tuesday reported 720 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total coronavirus cases in the state to 13,994, said.

720 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Kerala on Tuesday. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 13,994 which also includes 8056 active cases," Kerala CM told reporters.

With a spike of 37,148 cases and 587 deaths reported in India in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 11,55,191, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

COVID-19: Manipur tally crosses 2,000 mark
The COVID-19 tally in Manipur crossed the 2,000-mark, with the detection of 90 new cases on Tuesday, a Health department bulletin said.

The 90 new cases pushed the COVID-19 tally to 2,015 of which 631 are active cases, it said.

Sixty-four people also recovered from COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the total number of recovered persons to 1,384.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is 68.68 per cent, the bulletin added.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Thoubal, Bandana Devi imposed curfew in the entire district to prohibit movement of people to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The DM also declared three areas of Thoubal district as containment zones to prevent the spread of the virus and also to facilitate intensive contact tracing and house to house surveillance and testing of primary contacts, officials said.

COVID-19: Highest single-day spike of 1,680 cases in Assam; infection tally reaches 26,772
Assam recorded the highest single-day spike of 1,680 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as the state crossed the 26,000 mark, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The state also saw six more deaths due to the infection, he said.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state reached 26,772, while the death count increased to 64.

The 1,680 fresh cases include 570 from Guwahati, 167 from Jorhat and 159 from Cachar, the minister said.

The previous highest single-day spike of 1,218 cases in the north eastern state was reported on July 17.

"1680 new #COVID19 patients detected in Assam on July 21. Guwahati reported 570 cases. (Jorhat 167, Cachar 159). With 18,152 tests carried out in 24 hours, our positivity rate is 9.2 per cent," Mr Sarma said.

Among the six dead, four are women, and two each are from Kamrup Metropolitan and Kamrup Rural along with one each from Darrang and Dibrugarh districts, reported news agency PTI.

The death rate in the state is currently 0.26 per cent.

COVID-19: Night curfew, sunday lockdown as Unlock2 back in Bengaluru
With the nearly week long lockdown in Bengaluru urban and rural areas coming to an end, the Karnataka government on Tuesday issued an order reimplementing unlock 2.0 guidelines issued on June 30, under which there will be night curfew and Sunday lockdown.

The order, signed by Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar, said night curfew would be from 9 pm-5 am state-wide and that the lockdown on Sundays currently in place would continue.

The order also restricts the use of gym equipment and sitting on benches in parks.

It also said that vegetable markets, not only in Bengaluru, but also in district and taluk level, would be relocated to large open spaces or Agricultural Produce Market Committees, with the aim of restricting crowds.

The unlock 2.0 guidelines will be effective from 5 am on July 22 to July 31.

Bengaluru urban and rural areas were under "complete lockdown" since 8 pm on July 14 and it will be effective till 5 am on Wednesday.

Coronavirus news: Congress leader alleges lack of transparency in Telangana regarding COVID-19 situation
Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Tuesday alleged that there is a lack of transparency by Telangana government with regard to releasing the COVID-19 bulletin.

"We have been saying from the beginning that there is lack of transparency. The bulletins that are been put by the Telangana Government do not follow any standard proforma and the information is put out very selectively. Nowhere in the country and world have there this kind of lack of transparency," the Congress leader told ANI.

"I do not know who the state government is trying to fool. The data that is available is not complete for any meaningful decisions to be taken," he added.

Coronavirus news: 6 die of COVID-19 in Assam; 938 recover
Six persons, including four women, died due to COVID-19 in Assam on Tuesday, pushing the death toll to 64, and the caseload reached 25,092, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Of the six dead, two each are from Kamrup Metropolitan and Kamrup Rural and one each from Darrang and Dibrugarh districts.

The fatality rate is 0.26 per cent and the recovery rate is 71.87 per cent.

"938 patients have been discharged today. Patients returning 德扑圈apphome healthy are our beacon of hope," Mr Sarma tweeted.

There are 6,992 active cases, 64 have died and three have migrated out of the state, he said.

Coronavirus news: Rajasthan okays relief for about 35 lakh needy families hit by lockdown
The Rajasthan government on Tuesday decided to give Rs 1,000 compensation to each of about 35 lakh needy families hit by the coronavirus lockdown.

The decision, taken at a Cabinet meeting, will put a burden of Rs 351 core on the exchequer, an official statement said.

The cabinet also decided to provide relief to the tourism and related sector. The state government gave nod to restart the local public transport services in cities.

A government spokesperson said Rs 1,000 ex gratia will be provided to each of around 35 lakh families, including building construction workers and BPL families and those deprived of social security pension.

Odisha''s COVID-19 death toll climbs to 103, tally rises to 18,757

The COVID-19 deaths in Odisha crossed the 100-mark on Tuesday, with six more fatalities taking the total to 103, while the state''s virus load increased to 18,757 with 647 new cases, a health department official said.

The six fatalities were recorded from six districts. As many as 400 patients recovered from the deadly disease, taking the number of total cured persons to 13,319 which is 70.96 per cent. The fatality rate in Odisha stands at 0.54 per cent.

"Regret to inform the demise of six COVID positive patients while under treatment in hospitals," the health department said in a tweet, adding all of them had comorbidities.

At least four of them were suffering from hypertension, one had cancer, one was a patient of bronchiectasis, the department said.

Sharjeel Imam tests positive for COVID-19 in Guwahati jail

Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam, who has been lodged at Guwahati Central Jail for allegedly delivering a seditious speech and abetting riots in Jamia Millia Islamia area in December last year, has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Delhi Police Special Cell had applied for his production warrant in Assam as he is lodged at Guwahati Central Jail and he was going to be presented before a Delhi Court on July 25 but will not be produced now," Delhi Police sources said.

Imam was arrested by the Delhi Police on January 28 from Bihar for allegedly delivering a seditious speech and abetting riots in Jamia Millia Islamia area in December last year.

COVID-19 patient escapes from UP hospital, brought back within hours

A novel coronavirus patient ran away from a hospital here only to be caught and brought back to the facility hours later, officials said on Tuesday. The patient from Khurja town had escaped from the hospital at VVIT College late Monday night, the officials said.

After getting information about it, police and health department teams started a search for the patient who was traced near a culvert in Khurja town and admitted back to the hospital, they said.

Chief Medical Officer Bhavtosh Sankhdhar said an investigation has been initiated to find out the reason behind the escape and negligence of security personnel at the hospital.

Delhi govt to consult experts after sero-prevalence study finds 23.48 pc affected with COVID-19

With 23.48 per cent of people found affected by COVID-19 in a sero-prevalence study in the city, the Delhi government will consult public health experts and epidemiologists to determine whether the future strategy needs to be changed or not, an official said on Tuesday.

The official said that the results of the study show that on an average, across Delhi, the prevalence of antibodies is 23.48 per cent in the population.

This captures the state of recovery from COVID-19 infection in mid-June, the official said.

"We will consult public health experts and epidemiologists to determine if the future course of Delhi''s strategy against COVID-19 should change in light of these survey results or not," the official also said.

Coronavirus update: Mumbai reports 995 new cases; 62 die, 905 recover
Mumbai's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,03,262 on Tuesday with the addition of 995 new cases, while the death count increased to 5,814 after 62 more patients died due to the infection, the city civic body said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the number of recovered patients reached 73,555 after 905 more patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.

The civic body said currently the city has 23,893 active COVID-19 cases, PTI reported.

Nine more people died due to COVID-19 in Haryana on Tuesday, taking the state's death count to 364, while 604 fresh infections pushed its case count to 27,462, according to a state health department bulletin.

Of the latest fatalities, two each were reported from Faridabad, Rohtak and Karnal districts, and one each from Jhajjar, Palwal and Panipat districts, the department's daily bulletin stated.

Coronavirus news: Plasma therapy begins in Odisha's Ganjam district
After encouraging results from plasma therapy in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Odisha government on Tuesday started administering it on critically ill COVID-19 patients in Ganjam district, which accounted for 57 per cent of the total fatalities in the state, an official said.

Ganjam is the worst affected district in the state with 225 fresh novel coronavirus cases on Tuesday, pushing the tally to 5,991, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: 210 fresh COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 4,849 on Tuesday with 210 more people testing positive, according to a state health department bulletin.

Dehradun district reported a maximum of 65 new COVID-19 cases, followed by Haridwar (52), Udham Singh Nagar (34), Tehri (21), Uttarkashi (16), Nainital (15), Almora (5) and Champawat (2), the bulletin said.

A total of 3,297 people have recovered from the infection and 38 have migrated out of the state. Uttarakhand has seen 55 deaths linked to the coronavirus so far, it said.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 1,459, PTI reported.

The coronavirus death count rose to 1,229 in Uttar Pradesh after the state reported 37 fatalities, a statement issued by the state government said on Tuesday.

Coronavirus news: COVID-19 tally in Mumbai's slum colony Dharavi rises to 2,502

The coronavirus tally in Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi surpassed the 2,500-mark on Tuesday with the addition of 10 new cases, the city civic body said.

According to a senior BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) official, the tally of COVID-19 cases in the slum -dominated area rose to 2,502 with 10 new infections.

He said Dharavi now has 151 active COVID-19 cases, while the number of recovered patients stood at 2,101.

The civic body has, however, stopped sharing figures of COVID-19 deaths, if any, in Dharavi since last month, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: People are more likely to contract COVID-19 at 德扑圈apphome, study finds

South Korean epidemiologists have found that people were more likely to contract the new coronavirus from members of their own households than from contacts outside the 德扑圈apphome.

A study published in the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on July 16 looked in detail at 5,706 "index patients" who had tested positive for the coronavirus and more than 59,000 people who came into contact with them.

The findings showed just two out of 100 infected people had caught the virus from non-household contacts, while one in 10 had contracted the disease from their own families, Reuters reported.

Coronavirus news: RIMS attendant among 14 new coronavirus cases in Manipur

An attendant of Department of Respiratory Medicine, RIMS was among 14 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Manipur, officials said.

According to a press release issued by RIMS Medical Superintendent Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh, the attendant had visited the Respiratory Medicine OPD, Respiratory Medicine Ward, ECG Room in OPD block, Radio-Diagnosis Department, Respiratory Medicine Department, and Plastic Surgery Department.

Mr Singh said that RIMS OPD block and all the departments/wards which the attendant visited have been closed for one week with immediate effect. However, emergency services would not be affected, ANI reported.

Coronavirus news: India's COVID-19 recovery rate at 62.72 per cent, says Health Ministry
India's COVID-19 recovery rate is increasing day by day and today it is 62.72 per cent, Rajesh Bhushan, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Health Ministry said on Tuesday. 

Addressing the press conference, Mr Bhushan said, "There are currently 4,02,529 active cases in India and 7,24,577 people have recovered. The recovery rate in India is increasing. Today it is 62.72 per cent."

Coronavirus news: Russia, Hit By Coronavirus Crisis, Considers Military Spending Cuts
Russia is considering cutting spending on the military as low oil prices and the coronavirus crisis have pummelled its economy, a document published by the finance ministry shows.

The ministry has proposed the government cut state spending on the military by 5% between 2021 and 2023. The proposal, published on Monday, also includes budget spending cuts of 10% for the court system, the servicing of Russia's debt and wages for civil servants.

Russia, which flexed its military muscle with its 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and intervention in the Syrian conflict, dropped out of the list of the top five biggest military spenders in 2018 after its spending fell 3.5%, Reuters reported.

Coronavirus news: COVID-19 deaths per million population in India among lowest in world, says Health Ministry
The number of COVID-19 deaths per million population in India continues to be among the lowest in the world, Rajesh Bhushan, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

"COVID-19 cases per million population in India is 837 which is the lowest in the world. Some countries are reporting 12-13 times cases per million population as compared to India. If we see death rate according to per million population, it is 20.4 which is among the lowest in the world. Some countries are recording 21-33 times of deaths per million," Bhushan said at a press conference.

Coronavirus news: Odisha's COVID-19 death count climbs to 103 with 6 more fatalities
The COVID-19 death count in Odisha crossed the 100-mark on Tuesday, with six more fatalities taking the total to 103 in the state, a health department official said.

At least 647 more people have tested positive for the disease, pushing the tally to 18,757, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: COVID-19 recovery rate in Delhi at 84 per cent, only 22 per cent bed occupancy, says Satyendar Jain

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday said that the COVID-19 recovery rate in the national capital has reached 84 per cent with a total of 1,04,918 patients cured of the virus.

"Yesterday, 954 new cases were reported in Delhi. So far, the total number of 1,23,747 cases have been reported in the city. However, 1,784 people recovered from COVID-19 yesterday, which was a lot more than the number of new cases," the Minister told reporters.

According to the Minister, the decline in the number of cases is due to more awareness among the people, ANI reported.

Coronavirus news: 10 more COVID-19 cases reported in Himachal
With 10 more COVID-19 cases reported in Himachal Pradesh, the tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,641 in the state on Tuesday.

According to the official data, there are 547 active cases, 1,067 recoveries and 10 deaths in the state. Around 15 patients have also migrated from the state, ANI reported.

Some employees of Air India have died due to COVID-19 , an official circular of the airline has said, as it announced a fixed compensation amount for the next of family.

Coronavirus News: Rajasthan's COVID-19 Tally Reaches 30,741

Six more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Rajasthan on Tuesday, taking the count to 574, while 351 fresh cases pushed the state's tally to 30,741, an official statement said. It said 21,494 patients have been discharged so far and the state now has 7,868 active COVID-19 cases. The fresh cases include 103 in Alwar, 43 in Jalore, 32 in Nagaur, 27 in Ajmer, 23 in Sirohi, 18 in Dausa and 15 in Kota.
